DESCRIPTION:Health roles in volcanic crises: A case example from the 2018 Kilauea eruption\nVolcanic eruptions can impact the health and wellbeing of nearby populations\, many of which reside in densely populated major cities. During a crisis\, a coordinated\, multi-disciplinary response is necessary to mitigate health risks and provide timely advice to these anxious communities. A successful health-facing response requires volcanologists\, the health sector and emergency management agencies to co-develop an eruption response plan so that roles and protocols are well defined prior to the onset of an eruption. The unprecedented 2018 eruption of Kilauea volcano\, USA\, tested our existing response capacity\, resulting in numerous successes and lessons learned.

DESCRIPTION:Du millimètre au nanomètre\, de la 2D à la 3D\, avec le microscope électronique-ionique MEB-FIB \nEmmanuel Gardés\, Centre de recherche sur les Ions\, les Matériaux et la Photonique (CIMAP)\, Bd Henri Becquerel\, 14070 Caen cedex 5\, France\, gardes@ganil.fr \nLe microscope électronique-ionique MEB-FIB est un microscope électronique à balayage doté d’un canon à ions en plus du canon à électrons. Au-delà des caractérisations MEB conventionnelles\, l’abrasion par faisceau d’ions focalisé (FIB) permet\, par exemple : \n– d’accéder à un échantillon en profondeur et ainsi le caractériser en 3D\, \n– d’extraire des lames minces dans des sites spécifiques pour la microscopie en transmission\, \n– de faire des sections polies aux ions là où le polissage mécanique s’avère délicat voire impossible\, \n– d’usiner un échantillon à l’échelle micrométrique à nanométrique. \nJe présenterai quelques travaux réalisés avec le MEB-FIB du CIMAP\, avec notamment la fusion partielle du manteau pour application.

DESCRIPTION:Lava flows:  theory;  lab. experiments;  and field data.\n\nEd. Hinton\, Andrew Hogg and Herbert Huppert. \n\n \nWe will present the results of a study of thin\, viscous flows down an inclined plane to which is attached different topographical structures\,\nrepresenting hills\, buildings\, walls\, cars and so on in the path of an initially broad lava flow.\nWe will discuss the mathematical predictions of ponding\, dry regions\, special flow structures\nand the force the flow exerts on the obstacle concerned.  This will be followed by a series of videos of laboratory experiments confirming the results.\nThe audience will be encouraged to provide field data that exactly fits the theoretical predictions!
