« Geoheritage for Resilience on Isla de Ometepe- Nicaragua. How to go about developing a UNESCO Global Geopark project and manage risk« 

He’ll be showing the results of the August-September work in Nicaragua on I-Site ‘Ometepe’ funds, working on the framework of the UNESCO Geoscience project ‘Geoheritage for Resilience’. In three weeks, he worked with  colleagues from INETER (Instituto Nicaragüense de Estudio Territoriales) to discuss with locals on Ometepe their ideas about their island and their hope for development, especially through the viewpoint of managing risk.

It included a 80 strong workshop involving all local actors, and representatives from UNESCO and the ministries of environment, education, tourism and civil defence. This is all related to protecting the natural environment, and promoting sustainable development as a way to help build resilience against natural disasters.
