Research topics :
PhD : Development and use of a new isotopic tool as a tracer for the intensity of hydrothermal activity, and its evolution, in the Precambrian oceans
Under the supervision of Marion Garçon and Maud Boyet, as part of the ERC Starting Grant GOforISOBIF.
PhD referrer : Lydie Gailler
Research objectives :
This part of the ERC Starting Grant GOforISOBIF seeks to understand precambrian hydrothermal systems through the study of banded iron formations. The questions are the following: how intense was the hydrothermal activity ? Under what redox conditions ? These issues are crucial to better understand both the early mantle geodynamics and the conditions in which primitive life developed at the beginning of the Earth’s history.
Tools :
- Isotopic geochemistry.
- Sedimentology.
- Precambrian geology.
- Mass spectrometry.
