RESEARCH:
My main research focuses on experimental petrology and geochemistry, where I use piston−cylinder and multianvil devices, often supported by studies of natural mantle lithologies and mantle−derived volcanic rocks.
My particular interest is to experimentally constrain melting, phase, redox and rheological relations of a wide range of mantle lithologies. These include peridotites, eclogites and pyroxenites that contain varying amounts of trace elements and volatiles (C−O−H). I investigate how these volatiles bear upon the geochemical diversity and redox states of mantle−derived magmas. To explore these further, my experiments also involve use of various sophisticated micro−analytical and micro−imaging techniques at national and central facilities to improve our understanding of the Earth’s volatile cycles. -
